Fun Holiday Sessions!

Had to wait until after the holidays to post any of my fun holiday sessions because I didn’t want to spoil any surprises!

I love when clients are game for something different! C&D have two rescue shepherds they adore! They wanted something different since they had been in NJ for less than a year and wanted to celebrate landing in the Garden State! So off we went to Liberty State Park.

The weather was not cooperating. It was cold. It was drizzling-ish on an off. But their spirits never flagged!

I loved the sense of fun they brought to the session. They realized that the dogs may or may not cooperate. When I photograph small children or pets, it is these members of the family that determine just how long the session will be. I have learned to let them ‘lead’ the session. Meaning that I need to read their mood – whether or not they are engaged and enjoying it or flagging and losing focus. We did take a few short breaks and give them a change of scenery to reset.

You have to love the matching sweaters!

This was the money shot – NYC in the background. It’s early on in the session. We arrived at the location and decided to get the one image they really wanted. We got it. And now it was time to have some fun.

The clients printed this image large and it sits framed above their mantel!

I love the B&W image because it’s the scale of the subjects against the wall. When clients are open to suggestions, magic can happen. It’s more than them coming to me and saying – ‘hey, we want something different’, but not being able to name ‘different’. It’s important to have a conversation to figure out what it is they really want. Additionally, the ability to travel, have a longer session, and possibly pay a permit fee, helps to find ‘different’. It doesn’t mean it can’t be found in your backyard. It can. But that conversation is really important.

C&D and the pups were fabulous to work with and we’re already working on a new location for 2023’s holiday card. I can’t wait!
