I love color! The teal of the tallis - reminds me of a summer night sky - well after sunset but before night falls - a planetarium blue!

One of the best things about my 'job' after the creating photos part, is being able to have so many new and different 'offices'! And this blog will show you a bit of all the places I get to see, visit and have fun!
I love color! The teal of the tallis - reminds me of a summer night sky - well after sunset but before night falls - a planetarium blue!
I'm a sucker for light. All light. Here are pops of color and circles and loops and splashes and well a rainbow of sorts. It's a fun and colorful moment and makes me, and hopefully the client, happy!
Some are easy to find. The walls, the pews - all patterns. Others happen. Here the rabbi and the bar mitzvah are swinging their tallit the same way...a pattern!
Bad pun, sorry. But yes, he is in b&w and is reading. When I shoot in familiar spaces - it can be...a lot of the same. I always try to look for new angles, use of light, positions, anything. The family is unique, the photos should be as well.
First time I've ever seen this. Could be theruptic.
Mitzvahs are about traditions. Generation to generation.
I actually don't care if family members want to take photos during the rehearsal. I will happily use their phone and take the photo for them. It's their moment. It's ok.
I love lines. Leading lines especially - all these lines point to what's really important!
It is always an honor to be asked to capture a major family event. To be entrusted with preserving the memories that will be passed down for generations. To be entrusted to stop time for one moment.
It is always about family. Nothing else.
Photography is only about one thing. Light. Without it, there's no photography. The word photography, is based on the Greek: Photo - light, graph - write. Light writing. And I search out the late afternoon light to find the gold. This light kisses everyone and thing with this warm wonderful feeling you wish would last forever...
Our minds are comforted by patterns. While there are adrenaline junkies in our midst who constantly strive for excitement,, they too crave and are comforted by patterns. It's just that their patterns are thrills. The mind loves patterns, they are paths, maps of what happens next. It's comforting to know what happens next. Here is a image from last week. The repeating wood grain and lines of the benches - pull the eye thru the image - you know what happens next! I chose to make the image b&w to accentuate the patterns. The space was all wood and I had to either bounce the flash off the walls/ceiling and get an 'orange' glow or use direct flash that would have created a distracting shadow. I chose the bounce. While I could neutralize the orange tones, I felt the image was pretty strong in composition and I could strip out the color and have a strong image. And it is.
It's a great office policy! My office allows you to bring your pet! Not my pet - your pet! How awesome is that?!?
Second time around for this family. I had the honor of photographing their son's bar mitzvah and now it was time for their daughter. And they were great to work with and the fun didn't stop!
Did you know that Newark's Branch Brook Park has about 5000 cherry trees in 18 varieties, the most in the US. Even more than their famous cousins in DC. You can read more here. This past April, I had the pleasure to photograph a wonderful young lady amidst the blooms. So many photo ops! So many great places to pose! Every turn, another beautiful vista to take advantage of and enjoy. I love getting outside and trying new spaces with clients!
Sometimes it's the simple small things that make me smile. Here is a simple flower floating in a bowl. It's a Gerbera Daisy - one of my favorite flowers since they are, IMHO, one of the happiest flowers around! The decor for this bat mitzvah was simple and elegant in rose and gold tones. It was beautiful. Decor: Laura Himmelien from Party Cake, Party Cake.
Last week, I photographed a beautiful young lady in a local temple, Oheb Shalom in South Orange. The main sanctuary has the most amazing stained glass windows. I arrived early, before my clients and took a few close ups.
